About us
A senior team, working together since 2001
CODECart Alliance is a Bucharest-based engineering company founded in 2008 by seven engineers from NXP Semiconductors. The core team has worked together for 25 years — first at Compression Science Corporation, then at Philips Semiconductors and NXP.
Our story
From a semiconductor R&D group to an independent engineering partner
The team forms
The group comes together at Compression Science Corporation, working on video compression.
Philips Semiconductors
The team transfers to Philips Semiconductors as part of its Paris-based Imaging & Video group, working on H.264 encoding and decoding as the standard takes shape. H.264 technology preview at IBC 2002, then again at IBC 2004.
H.264 on mobile platforms
The team presents “H.264 Decoding on Mobile Platforms” at the 4th Philips DSP Conference.
NXP Semiconductors
Philips Semiconductors becomes NXP Semiconductors; the team continues its video and embedded software work inside NXP.
CODECart Alliance is founded
In November, seven NXP engineers found CODECart Alliance S.R.L. and continue as suppliers to NXP and ST-Ericsson. ST-Ericsson's Le Mans group supports the new company's start-up.
New customers, new domains
Ultra-low-power audio, vision processors for automotive and handheld devices, imaging, wireless charging — and machine learning in the signal chain.

How we work
What working with us is like
Senior by default
Our engineers have spent their careers on DSP and embedded software. You work directly with them — from the first call.
The maths and the machine
We understand both the algorithm and the platform restrictions, and we find the place where they come together.
Process you can rely on
CMMI Level 2 practices from our NXP years: specifications, versioning, automated testing and documentation — or we adapt to yours.
Used to remote teams
We have worked with R&D teams across Europe, North America and Asia — remotely and on site — following their quality standards.
Worldwide collaboration
R&D teams we have worked with, on three continents

Who we work with
From silicon to shipped product
We have worked at every link of the chain: for the companies that design the chips, inside the software that ships with those chips, and in the devices built on them. Our customers' names stay confidential, but the experience is real.
-
01 · silicon
Inside semiconductor R&D
For global semiconductor vendors we build codecs, libraries and benchmarks for their DSPs and media processors, platform middleware and drivers — and we have even proposed instruction-set extensions.
Supplier to R&D groups in several European countries, on site and remote, within their quality procedures.
-
02 · platform
In the software that ships with the chip
Our components ship inside chip vendors' SDKs: a video codec for a vision processor, audio codecs for an ultra-low-power DSP, a CNN in a commercial toolkit.
Long-term maintenance, plus training and level-3 support for the vendor's own customers.
-
03 · product
In the devices people use
Our code runs in mobile phones, surveillance and imaging cameras and video-telephony systems; we have built vision applications for automotive and handheld devices, and software for wireless charging.
Integration support for device makers and multi-year collaborations.
Relationships that last
- Since 2008
- A semiconductor company backed our founding as a strategic partner; we went on to supply its R&D groups.
- 5 years
- Designing and maintaining the imaging subsystem of a cellular platform used by a major handset maker.
- Ongoing
- A multi-year audio collaboration whose speaker-protection code ships in commercial phones.
We also work as a specialist subcontractor for engineering-services groups, and run internal R&D projects around audio and video processing. We are an associate member of DSP Valley and a member of ANIS Romania, the Romanian Employers' Association of the Software and Services Industry.
