Digital Signal Processing Flexed-Point Representation

Embedded DSP forces a choice between fast but limited fixed-point arithmetic and accurate but expensive floating-point. The paper introduces flexed-point (flxp): a representation that trades off between the two — a fixed-point mantissa scaled by a small exponent — suited to the low-power, small CPUs found in embedded applications.
